At Curtidos Badia, we manage environmental impact from the process-design stage. Water and energy consumption, chemical management, emissions and resource use are controlled, measured and continuously improved to produce leather that meets the standards demanded by the industry.

Leather production requires water, energy and chemicals. Reducing that impact means measuring, prioritizing and acting on what truly makes a difference.
At Curtidos Badia, we work across three complementary areas: Life Cycle Assessment, resource-use efficiency and responsible chemical management.
Life Cycle Assessment allows us to evaluate the environmental impact of each article throughout its entire journey, from the origin of the raw material to the end of its useful life. We identify where the greatest impacts occur so that design and process decisions can deliver meaningful improvements.
We use LCA as a working tool. It helps us prioritize investments, optimize processes and develop articles with a lower environmental impact from the outset.
From origin to finished article — LCA measures the entire journey.
Reducing environmental impact requires understanding where resources are used and how they can be optimized. That is why we continuously measure, analyze and improve water and energy use throughout every stage of production.
Water efficiency
Water is an essential resource in the tanning process. We therefore combine the continuous optimization of water consumption with specialist effluent treatment, managed by Igualadina de Depuració i Recuperació (IDR), a benchmark in wastewater treatment for the leather industry. Our goal is to progressively reduce specific water consumption without compromising article quality.
Data in preparation — m³ of water per m² of leather and year-on-year reduction.
SELF-CONSUMPTION AND EFFICIENCY
Energy efficiency is part of the continuous improvement of our processes. The use of photovoltaic energy allows us to increase our self-consumption of renewable electricity and reduce production-related emissions.
Data in preparation — % of self-consumption and kWh generated per year.
ZDHC is embedded in the way we develop our articles. We do not see chemical management as a check performed at the end of the process, but as a consideration at every stage, from raw-material selection to the finishing of each hide.
We work with suppliers aligned with these criteria, assess lower-impact chemical alternatives and verify compliance through analytical testing.
Behind every article are technical decisions, controls and evidence. This is the foundation on which we build lasting relationships with the brands that place their trust in us.
